Our Valmiera office had the privilege of hosting Baiba Šmite-Roķe, the Managing Director of the State Revenue Service, to receive the award and share Mearra's story. What was expected to be a formal institutional visit turned out to be an inspiring conversation and idea exchange about office equipment and ergonomics, company values, and work culture.

> “Our team in Latvia consists of 29 professionals, while we are all in all 99 Mearra people. Ethical and responsible business practices towards our employees and clients have been on our daily agenda since the very beginning. I am proud that [Mearra's salary model](/insights/wunders-salary-model-and-employee-benefits "Mearra's salary model and employee benefits") is based on fixed monthly salaries for all employees, ensuring stable and predictable income for our people and their families. We are thrilled to receive the recognition and motivated to continue following our values and building a great place to work.”

An unexpected touching point for Mearra and State Revenue Service was the bees! Yes, you read it right - the bees. We have included bee hives and bees in the portrait of the Mearra Ecosystem, while the specially crafted taxpayer award is made in the shape of a tree, with its leafage resembling a honeycomb. One way or the other, the bees are considered a symbol of collaboration, support, and growth, as in both cases, productivity and success depend on their contribution to collecting honey and the “invisible” actions of pollination.

> “Businesses are the lifeblood of our national budget. The labor taxes paid by responsible businesses form one of the foundations of sustainable Latvia and are a sign of mature business practices. These payments are also a guarantee of security for everyone, ensuring support during times when employees might need help—whether it's the birth of a child, health issues, or temporary unemployment. They are an investment in every person's future.”

This is the 26th time that the top taxpayers are being honored. This year, a total of 21 awards are being presented to the top labor taxpayers in five regions of Latvia across the categories of large, medium, small, and micro-enterprises, as well as the top taxpayers in Latvia for the year 2023.
